First! Are you following Life with Alegria?
If you’re not, hop to it, friends! The WordPress community continues to delight and surprise me with introductions to the most generous souls. Kind and thoughtful humans who create meaningful, provocative content which inspires. That’s Alegria and you’ll love her blog…full of visual feasts and reminders that self-care needn’t be time consuming… or another item on a never-ending ‘to-do’ list. It’s a practice, a habit to develop where renewal comes from awareness. Alegria’s splendid examples are often drawn from the natural world and the glimmers within. She invites and encourages her readers to lean into wonder.
Second! Alegria honored me with a review of “Surviving Sue” that went straight to my heart.
Her words touched every one of my intentions…especially my goal of shining a light on the power of storytelling to inspire and encourage recovery and resilience. Healing. My story about my mom, Sue.
Here’s a snippet of Alegria’s review, but if you have a moment, please pop over to her site to read it fully. It made my tear up…and you’ll understand why. The power of being seen and heard? The reason why I write. Here’s a portion of Alegria’s kind words:
Thank goodness for the angels that came into Vicki’s life at various points, teachers, doctors, social workers, friends and a lawyer. Their support and guidance is a gift that allows us to acknowledge the help that comes when we need it most. I exclaimed a definitive, “Yes!” out loud when Dr. Carole appears in the story with her blue halo. Luckily nobody was home to hear me.
There is so much to the story that spans the decades of Sue’s life and thus Vicki’s, and I don’t want to provide any spoilers. The insights you gain will be yours and there will be many. The inspiration of experiencing another warrior’s story is cathartic. And the gentle removal of tissue paper like layers is a gift that allows us to see more clearly beneath the fragilities and frailties of human complexities.
And to the beautiful writer friends who’ve been supportive of “Surviving Sue” all along? It means so much. Every review, every positive nod of encouragement. Thank you all.
Love and hugs,
Vicki 😊
