Peace, Love & Bunnies

Last August I shared a post, “Books, Bunnies and Forgiveness” and included a few snaps of a baby bun-bun. A welcome visitor on our deck. I can’t say for sure, but I think the little dude (or dudette) is now a teenager and decided to visit again. Same spot. Same ambition. Figuring out where the squirrel hid the walnuts.

For reasons I don’t fully understand, the oversized fern on our deck is the preferred hiding spot for squirrel loot. There’s nothing funnier than watching a bushy tail jut out of the fern-y foliage as treasures are stored, deep within the lush fern fronds. The squirrels might think they’re stealthy, but the bunnies are watching.

Take a look at these action shots in sequence – from the first, “Who you lookin’ at?” pose to the last pic where I got bunny side-eye.

If you missed my previous rabbit-related post, take a peek. Yes, I share a few nature pics, but I also reveal my all-time favorite book, gifted to me many years ago with a timeless mantra from a dear one. Relevant then and now:

Find the ones who will run with you.

A reminder that peppered my head and heart relentlessly this week.

Thanks so much for stopping by…I’m sending peace and love.

  1. Bunnies are so cute. If they would only stick to stealing squirrel treats and not look at every garden as a gift from Mr MacGregor.

    1. Indeed, indeed! I’ll pass along that message. A couple of tricksters were noshing on the hostas this morning. I think the squirrel loot is now long gone! 😉

      1. Don’t be so sure that all the loot has been looted. Squirrels are great investors and can see the benefits of diversifying their portfolio, errr, hiding places.

Since it is a bunny birthday of sorts and his strategy for survival is questionable, you might want to give the rabbit a few safety tips. Hiding certain body parts might be a place to start. Not that I know anything about bunny strategy!

  3. Find the ones who will run with you, a worthy mantra indeed. A question I ask myself these days is how to handle the sad reality that some longtime friends no longer fit in that category without saying so. 🥲

  5. So let me get this straight: Mr bunny is stealing Mr Squirrel’s loot. I feel like I’m watching a behind the scenes look at how The Jets and The Sharks (ala West Side Story) started to rumble. You might want to take cover Vicki, the big fight scene is coming up. Ha ha! 🤣🤣😎😎😎

  6. Good morning. A yard without dogs invites a bunny or lots of bunnies. Our yard has plenty of bunnies and squirrels who prefer my bird feeders and my wife’s xenias! You have a sharp eye, and a patient camera. Have a wonderful weekend.

  9. We have lots of bunnies and ferns in our yard too. Fortunately, the former tend to leave Tara’s garden alone (knock on wood). I guess the takeaway is, rabbits are politer than deer!

  10. Peace and smiles to you Victoria. What a smile those bunny pics gave me and I think taking them and seeing them live would be 100% better.

The coyotes keep the population of bunnies here under control I suspect as I rarely see them but strangely enough I had one bunny encounter this summer.

I lifted up my daughter’s auto grassmover and a baby bunny hopped out from under it and moved two feet away to huddle against a wall. It was so so small ♥ and brown. I thought it was scared so I took a photo and tiptoed away.

  11. What a lovely post to wake up to! I love watching the wildlife in our backyard too. Lately, trails of baby quail following their parents and fluttering up to our birdbath–a whole clan, a dozen or more squeezed together.

  21. We have bunnies galore around here. [And doesn’t Bunny Galore sound like a Bond girl name?] They consider hostas to be hot fudge sundaes that must be eaten down to the roots. Can’t stop ’em so I now just shrug. And smile at them.

  26. I love bunnies, Vicki, but we don’t have bunnies here in my new home of 2 1/2 years in Oregon. Your bunny is so cute and lovely to return to your deck. We have a fmaily of three squirrels. The baby must be 1 1/2 years old now and I watched how small he was and now he is the size of the parents.
