Book Review – Maggie Watson’s “Wildflower”

I can’t think of a more compelling message for the back cover of Maggie’s Watson’s latest book, “Wildflower“. In six words she articulated her heart, her resilience and recovery story:

“I bloom even when it rains”.

The subtitle of Maggie’s book describes the volume as “poetry to heal and empower” and she delivers–over and over again. While it’s hard to pick a favorite poem, I’ve returned to the piece entitled “Progress” because of its starkness and truth. I think you’ll love it, too:

Progress

Progress is Not Linear,

never measured by a single event.

Small steps.

As you climb, the landscape becomes pellucid.

Your goals are now so much closer than you thought.

The air is cleaner as you breathe it in.

Drink and savour this moment.

You got this far.

Small steps.

Start walking again.

Don’t stop until you are proud.

Keep looking straight ahead, but always look out for the bends.

Progress is not linear, and it should never end.

Beautiful, beautiful.
