Little Me

Inspired by Maryanne and her beautiful blog, I learned this morning that it’s National School Picture Day. Was it designated as such because ‘throwback Thursday‘ is still a thing? I’m not sure…BUT…I loved Maryanne’s post and the sweet school picture she included.

It didn’t take much prompting from Maryanne to dig out one of my own…this one, I think is from 1972. A school picture that I liked, but my mom, Sue, had issues with because my teacher added a barrette that was not pre-approved. Golly, that started a holy war when Sue saw the photos. But I thought I looked swell. 😉

Thanks, Maryanne, for the nudge. I enjoyed flipping through some old photos to find this one, almost as much as I enjoyed your post full of early 70’s memories and reminders that this school transition time can be tough on everyone.

    I love the photos. You look adorable. I also had a school photo with a big bow tie on a patterned background. It must have been a look!

            I wasn’t able to find a class photo. I’ll dig for it another day. I have looked through the photo album from my childhood and it’s all family photos.

    Picture Day—so many stories. Some kids could have cared less and others got very excited. I found amusement in some of the parent requests who asked me to make certain that the photographer didn’t try to change their child’s hairstyle. I had other parents ask if I could keep children in from recess (which, quite naturally, the child resented) until the pictures got taken. Never mind that my only time to pee was on these breaks.

    There was usually a schedule for classes, but without fail, but something always messed up the schedule. Many kids asked repeatedly why they hadn’t called us for pictures yet. In other words, there was a whole lot of unnecessary drama. 🤣

    Lovely photo and I think the barrette adds a nice touch. One thing I observed when my girls were in school is that school pictures are SO much better than they used to be. I suppose it’s thanks to digital photography. The photographer has a chance to correct the really bad ones right away. They didn’t have that luxury when we were young. And some of my school photos are proof of that.

        LOL. If you saw my grade 8 photo, you would take those words back, Vicki. It was the definition of a bad hair day. Picture my hair flat against my head on one side, and the cowlick to end all cowlicks on the other side.

        The worst part is my dad carried that photo in his wallet for years. I finally took it away from him because I could not believe he was showing it to people.

    Love the picture of “Little Me”! I do not have fond feelings of my school pictures. At the time I was very self conscious about my ears. Wasn’t until I was in my early 20’s that I finally made peace with how God had created them. Take care! DM

    Ha, ha, I love it. Isn’t it funny how old school pix can instantly transport us back to another time, another place. We’re here one minute in September 2023, the next we’re back to our elementary school days and everything happening around us at the time. Love the pic, love the barrette. Lovely post Vicki!

    Great pic! I had trouble smiling for pictures when I was a kid. I honestly thought I was doing it, but I never was. My fourth grade teacher thought I was grumpy and told me she was going to put a picture of Oscar the Grouch on my desk. But I was confused because I thought I was smiling all the time 😂 that “smiling on the inside” thing was real for me 😁

      I love that story! I must admit…the hubster Paul is the same way. He has that quiet, stealthy sense of humor and he can be rolling with laughter – on the inside – but you’d never know it except for a smirk. Cheers to smirkers. I think you’ve got company!
