Hand in Hand

I’ve returned to Yeats.

William Butler Yeats, that is, because of “The Celtic Twilight” – first published in 1893 yet resonant for me today. A volume that’s comprised of Yeats’ early morning reveries. They speak to me, especially as autumn approaches. Stoking my sense of wonder, my belief in possibilities…

Hand in hand.

I love the invitational aspects of Yeats’ words. Here are two examples that inspire…

Instill hope.

Especially when I read these verses in tandem:

“Come away, O human child:

To the waters and the wild

with a fairy, hand in hand,

For the world’s more full

of weeping than you can

understand.”

Go forth, the tellers of tales.

And seize whatever

the heart longs for.

Have no fear.

Everything exists.

And everything is true.

And the earth is only

A little dust

Under our feet.”

  2. Inspirational for sure, Vicki, especially if I interpret “Everything is true” as “Everything is possible”. Thanks for these snippets of Yeats’ melodic poetry. Enjoy an “everything is possible” day! 😊🥰

  4. So inspiring Vicki. Thanks for sharing. It is true isn’t it, suffering exists in our world and though we know about it, experience it ourselves, and understand its implications, we also know there is joy and wonder beyond it.
Your early morning reveries have inspired me today too. Thank you!

    1. Thank you, Mark. I think of you as one of the most well-read people I know…so I’m tickled that I brought something new to you. You’re quite the writer yourself, my friend…”he knows how to weave an intricately beautiful verbal fabric”. Wow. 🥰

  16. Oh… this in so lovely! Thank you for sharing these, Victoria. This also beautifully reminds me of “The Impossible Dream” in Man of La Mancha… that Don Quixote like hope within our soul and heart. 💖

  17. Thanks for sharing this post from last year with the post from this year – because coming to this 2024 post was interesting – and I was just talking with a poet about “morning” poetry and see that Yeats had a collection of “early morning reveries” ties into what Maggie and I were talking about. I have not heard his name in a long while.

    🙂
