“Surviving Sue” News

I’m delighted to share news about upcoming “Surviving Sue” events.

Next week I have the pleasure of visiting with a book club to talk about the mental health and resiliency themes in “Surviving Sue“. Then I get to hang out with retirees at a luncheon gathering – sharing lessons learned about the common bonds of caregiving and persevering. I love it all.

In June, I’ll be at a local library once again for the workshop that’s become my most popular offering – “Navigating Elder Care with Grace and Humor“. Thanks to the folks at the Wauconda Public Library for inviting me. As soon as registration opens in a few weeks, I’ll provide links for those of you who are local in case you’d like to join me.

I’m learning about the seasonality of book promotion and speaking engagements, along with book club visits. It seems like spring-into-summer is the time when more of that occurs. And I’m ready. So is my friend – author, blogger, and podcasting partner, Wynne Leon. This year we’ve added a few new topics, featured in the Chicago Writers Assocation Speakers Bureau about wellness, writing and caregiving using AI:

“Writing for Wellness” by Dr. Vicki Atkinson
Join author and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Dr. Vicki Atkinson to learn how to unlock your storyteller’s heart and enhance your self-care game at the same time. Learn about Dr. Atkinson’s techniques for improving life satisfaction and relationships and reducing stress – all through developing your voice as a writer. Includes handouts, resources and Q&A.

“Navigating Elder Care with Grace and Humor” by Dr. Vicki Atkinson
Join the author of “Surviving Sue” to learn how to navigate the challenges of elder care. Dr. Atkinson’s experience in caring for her mother who suffered from Alzheimer’s, alcoholism, and anxiety taught her lessons about forging ahead with humor. Dr. Atkinson shares tips for caregiver wellness. Includes handouts, resources, and Q&A.

“How To Create a Writing Platform” by Dr. Vicki Atkinson and Wynne Leon
Establish your on-line writing presence with actionable steps to build your writing identity. Authors Atkinson and Leon have interviewed dozens of writers/authors/bloggers and know the terrain. They’ll help participants unlock the keys to build a writer’s life while juggling other roles. With clear how-to’s about getting started, promotion ideas on social media, and encouragement, this session will help you begin your writing journey with confidence. Includes handouts, resources and Q&A. (Virtual only)

“AI and for Caregivers: Taking Advantage of a Virtual Assistant” by Dr. Vicki Atkinson and Wynne Leon
Learn how generative AI can ease the heavy load for caregivers. Authors Atkinson and Leon will inspire you to think creatively about the use of virtual assistants. From building a budget, creating notifications, managing schedules and more, AI can relieve caregivers of burdensome tasks. Even better? We’ll show you how AI can open doors to creative pursuits – like capturing family history and precious stories. Includes handouts, resources and Q&A. (Virtual only)

Feedback and Praise

  • Vicki is so encouraging and calm. She stayed after the session to talk with me and provided referrals to local resources.”
  • “Wynne and Vicki are great together.  I love how I learn and laugh and walk away feeling good and more empowered!”
  • “Thanks so much.  I look forward to your stories about family and humor and staying connected with those we love.”
  • “My toolkit grows every time I listen and learn from you both.”

      1. You’re welcome, Vicki! Hubby and his siblings had a hard time convicing their mom going to a senior care home. It was a memory care facility. She had forgotten to take her medication, and had strange behvior such as tore a twenty dollar bill and put the pieces in an envelope. Anyway, to fast forward, they “tricked” her into moving in the facility. She cried a lot and didn’t want any family member to visit her. She passed away less than two years later.
Hubby wanted to stay in Southern California when his mom was alive. After she passed away, we moved closed to Oregon to be close to the grandkids. We now only help to take care of the grandkids. 🙂 ❤

        1. Love what you shared, Miriam, about your husband’s situation with his mom. Those strange behaviors can be truly startling – prompting a lot of worrying about “what ifs” if families don’t step in to take action on behalf of their loved one.
Sending big hugs to you in Oregon!
          🥰❤️🥰
