Keep Good Company

What a pleasure it was to present on my favorite topic last week – Writing for Wellness!

I’m grateful to the wonderful folks at the Wauconda Public Library for hosting a ‘lunch and learn’ event. As a bonus, several friends from the Barrington Writers Workshop attended – such a fun crossover and a delight to have Harlene, Katy and Nancy in the room.

Finding a supportive writing community is a gift, no doubt. I’m lucky to have several circles of thoughtful folks around me including each of you who are part of my blogging family. Thank you for the inspiration you provide in your posts and comments…and camaraderie! I feel oh-so fortunate.

I share a few inspirational quotes in this workshop – one from C.S. Lewis which I reference when I talk about my own writing journey and the encouragement I found in his words when I took the leap two years ago and began writing my soon-to-be-published, first ever novel – “Slivers”. The bluntness from Lewis – to write about real things or imaginary things – pushed me forward. Instilling bravery to write a spooky story – Vicki-style.

I love closing the session with a gem from Louisa May Alcott; a perfect message to invoke when thoughtful folks come together in a beautiful library. I think you’ll like it, too:

Lagniappe? A little more? The debut of the “Slivers” synopsis!

In a single week in the summer of 1973, a quiet suburban neighborhood implodes when generations of mystical deceit become too much to bear. Drawn to the web of secrets and lies, the other worldly slivers refuse to be ignored, pushing one family to the brink.

  8. Vicki, you’ve done such a fabulous job of building a wonderfully supportive network of bloggers and writers. You lead with your heart and that helps us all feel valued, and encourages us to do better. 💖💖I love the Louisa May Alcott quote. And I’m feeling inspired to follow the advice of C.S. Lewis. And “Slivers” sounds intriguing. ✨

  9. So happy to hear about your event and see all the photos. I loved your quotes too. The one about writing about what what really interests you reminds me of another favorite quote from Annie Dillard: A writer looking for subjects inquires not after what he loves best, but after what he alone loves at all. Strange seizures beset us.

I also loved your snippet about your book: Beautiful! It really grabs and draws me in. Can’t wait to read it.
