Bookmarks Festival

I’m thrilled to be a participant in Harper College’s upcoming event, Bookmarks: A Festival for Readers and Writers on Saturday, August 29 from 10 am – 2pm.

It’s going to be great! Live music, local libraries, authors and readers PLUS a keynote from New York Times bestselling author, Laurie Gwen Shapiro about her book, The Aviator and the Showman.

I’ll be on a panel with Harper faculty members Maggie McKinley and Jim Edstrom, talking about Research vs. Reflection in our writing processes. Maggie and Jim are both incredibly talented and I’m honored to present with them — listening, learning, sharing.

If you’re in the area, I’d love to see you. I’ll be there with copies of both Surviving Sue and Slivers.

The event is free, but registration is required.

One more thing!

I have the nicest bit of feedback to share. Words so delightful I’m a smidge embarrassed.

But first a warning.

The glint and glare, the squinting you might experience as you read? It’s from my face. I’m still beaming. Here’s the scoop…

I’m writing a piece for an upcoming publication which will celebrate the auspicious 50th Anniversary of the Barrington Writers Workshop. While reviewing feedback, I found a comment I’d missed from a dear member whose talent blows me away. Here’s what she said:

Vicki — I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to read/hear a well-written, charming, engaging and terrific piece. Your writing always brings me into a special place where I leave the conscious world behind. Thank you for sharing! Keep writing! You have a true gift and must serve it, dear girl.

Talk about motivational motherlode; the power of kindness and consideration, taking the time to offer heartfelt praise.

Which brings me to this: I bet there’s someone in your world who would relish a few encouraging words today.

No strings, just admiration.

Thinking and feeling the good stuff without sharing is like bottling up joy, unnecessarily so. You have the power, people! Get out there and use it.

Vicki 💝

    1. Awww….it’s so mutual, Joy. We spent the day with Lisa yesterday and we passed a Casey’s gas station and we had a long conversation about you, Guy and pizza from there. I told Lisa you said it was great…and you know what? She said she already knew and agreed with you. Apparently, she’s “in the know” about Casey’s, too! Good pizza giggles. Almost like you were riding along with us. xoxoxoxo! 😘💝😘

  12. I think I moved south prematurely, Vicki. 😄 You always spotlight such great events in Chicago; this one is no exception! It sounds fun and informative and I love how local libraries are involved. You’ll rock the panel (of course.) I’m keeping my eyes open for the perfect person who needs some heartfelt praise. It IS a great feeling to make someone’s day. Thanks for the nudge! 💝
