Slivers on Vacation

Can you see me smiling?

My dear friend Jen is half-way around the world right now, vacationing in Greece and guess what’s riding along, beachside with her? Yup. A copy of Slivers!

I don’t know if you remember Flat Stanley, the sweet cut-out character beloved by elementary school littles. Our Delaney had a Flat Stanley, and he traveled the world, racking up more than a few frequent flyer miles. But only after some serious negotiations. When the assignment popped up in third grade, our young miss declared her strong dislike for the “Stanley-ness” of the task. Delaney wanted to know why her project couldn’t be a “Flat Stephanie”. Oy. That might’ve been the first inkling of her debate acumen, a skill she still possesses. God gave her a triple dose of holding her own and I don’t mind. Now. But I think her teachers may have thought otherwise.

Flat Stanley, err…Stephanie…came to mind yesterday when Jen sent the pic of Slivers on the beach. In Greece. My mind raced. I wondered where other copies of Slivers may have traveled. So much fun!

Jen is 1000% on board with my sharing, but I’m still working on sidelining my concerns. I’ve never been to Greece and my mind’s a whirr, wondering what sort of trouble the meddlesome slivers might conjure, on the loose a few thousand miles away.

Jen will keep me posted, I’m sure. Think good thoughts for her, will you?

P.S. Coming soon? Lovely reviews, thanks to Mary K. Doyle and Nancy Nauman. Both Mary and Nancy did the ‘deep dive’ and recently read both Surviving Sue and Slivers. Wow. A double dose of Vicki. More on their kind words in upcoming posts.

  1. The book couldn’t have found a better place, the site of the first democracy, sort of. See if your friend can get a book cover autograph from Socrates! Of course, he didn’t write, so that might be a stretch. Continued good luck for a book with legs!

  3. That’s great, Vicki. What fun it is to know your book is seeing the world. Now if your friend, was truly a friend, she would have brought you along to Greece. 🙂
