Baby & Mama

A couple of weeks ago I posted about our worries about a “Dear Deer”…a sweet lonely and lame girl who became a frequent visitor in our backyard. Sadly, we’ve seen no signs of her recently, but other family members 😊popped by, reminding us that life goes on.

The scene in the pic (snipped in above) made our day around here. A woodsy, overgrown area in our backyard’s been a birthing spot for deer for decades. Cheers to that!

We can’t wait until our apple tree bears fruit for deer-ly friends to enjoy because there’s nothing more enchanting than watching mama teach her baby how to rise up on hind legs to get the juiciest apples. This year we suspect our lone tree will bring a bounty and maybe other family members will saunter by to enjoy a feast.

For today, enjoy the mama and baby sighting with us!

    And I have a dog specifically to keep the deer out of our yard. Otherwise, they eat it all. Those apples that I grow are for pies and apple sauce. There is lots of food for them, just not in the yard. The dog chasing them is a lot less work than 7 feet fences.

    Yup, that time of the year. I bet you see the fawn more in the weeks to come as it gets used to its legs. Pretty cool. As far as your husband’s flowers, two old farmer tricks, put out a bar of soap or spread some human hair clippings around the flowers. That’s what my grandfather used to tell me. Ha ha, good luck.     This post reminded me of the sweetest memory of my step-grandmother. On evenings she could not rest, she sat on the edge of the bed and watched the deer come down and eat from the apple tree in her back yard. 🥰 Thank you for reminding me of such a lovely memory.

    Sweet! That is one of the many things I love about where we live. Seeing deer on the regular, various kinds of birds, and recently 5 baby racoons climbing up a tree in our backyard. There is nothing quite like the country life.
