Friends are Like Songs in Your Heart

Wynne and I shared a giggle the other day.  She gifted me a fabulous book of quotes a few months ago and it’s on my desk…overstuffed with snippets of wisdom.  Quotes, bon mots, websites, post-it notes – see the pic above.  It’s a hot, hot mess.  Notice I’m not giving you the broad shot of my desk in the photo.  😉 No one needs to see that, but I don’t mind sharing my Wynne bucket…err…basket.

I like the nearness of it.  It reminds me of a friendship – deep and true – and the unspoken life goals that Wynne and I share:

To inspire.  To be inspired.  To reach – but always with the capacity to bend.

Shared goals based on philosophy, ideology?  They unfold, sometimes wordlessly.  When the opportunity arrives, and you can read someone’s heart?  It’s a gift.  When we find our people — like-minded and like-hearted humans – we feel whole.  Part of a greater good, a broader mission.

A friend who knows the song in your heart is the stuff of life, which reminds me of the gift of gratitude I received recently from a stranger.  Take a peek at my post on Heart of the Matter to learn more. Thank you so much for reading.

Vicki ❤

  5. Oh, Vicki. Where is the “LOVE” button on WordPress? That C.S. Lewis quote is amazing and I love hearing tales of your friendship with Wynne.

    1. Ah — wouldn’t that be the BEST — a ‘love button’? I know Julia’s asked about that, too. If only. And maybe then I’d give the emoji’s a rest, LOL. Thanks for loving the C.S. Lewis quote, too. You are so very musical, dear Michelle. I suspect you have many songs in your heart and having friends who innately know our tunes? What’s better? xo!

      1. Serendipity abounds today, Vicki! I published my post about the power of music and yours is the second blog post I’ve seen about music or songs. The power of music is indeed alive.

  6. Vicki, I happened upon your lovely post this morning and immediately wrote down the Lewis quote, followed by the title of the book and the reminder to order Wynne’s book, which I did and look forward to receiving and reading, and then I headed over to my own little space where I swapped out a wide span picture of my own chaotic writing space (what was I thinking!) for a calmer option, thanks to Unsplash. What a splendid home run! Thank you!!! 😀❤️

    1. Good morning, Deb! Thanks for ALL of that. I’m so glad we’re connecting and that you loved the quote (it’s a fave!) and that you’ve ordered Wynne’s book. You will love it…such a beautiful, extended love letter to her brilliant father. Can’t wait for you to share what you think…and I know Wynne will be feeling the same! xoxo! (Oh — and cheers to refreshing our physical and virtual spaces — I love making those tweaks…it feels good, doesn’t it?) 🥰

  7. True friendship is a gift. I spent time with my best friend last week. We met when we were five. And I get to see another close friend since fifth grade next week. Thanks for sharing Wynne with us!

      1. One of my favorite stories: At age 5, I went to a birthday party for my friend who lived down the street, and she was headed to a birthday party for a friend across town. So I party hopped and me my future bestie. We all grew up together in a small Oklahoma town. At our 20 year high school reunion, we realized we lived within 20 minutes of each other in the Dallas area. It was an instant reconnection.

  11. My mentor Gerry was a friend like none other. In the darkest days of my life, he brought laughter and fun sneaking out of the hospital for Chinese food (albeit the nurses knew about it). He shared my sense of humor and his eyes sparkled with light inside. Saying goodbye to him was so hard, but he was more concerned about me, and he prayed for me. He changed my life with his example.
