When You Crack Yourself Up: Tailgating Giggles

There are days…when I’d pay loads of money for a good giggle or two. Know what I mean? Today’s been one of those days and I’m grateful for the dear ones and near ones and the friends far afield who know how to bring the sunshine, no matter what.

Most often, my deepest belly laughs come from unexpected places.  The trick? Remembering to keep my peepers open, ready and willing to see the hilarity. When I’m deep in my own muck du jour, I might miss the very best of what a day has to offer.

Rick to the Rescue!

Wynne and I enjoyed our recent podcast with Rick Kaempfer…he’s a humorist, an author and a terrific storyteller and joke writer! Rick’s sense of humor – quips pulled from his archives, make me laugh out loud.

So, here’s the invitation.  Take a look.  I defy you to NOT giggle or smirk at least a time or two as you read Rick’s list of “50 Things in 50 Years”.

Confession? #20 is a belly buster for me.  I think it’s because I’ve been besieged by aggressive tailgaters recently, prompting a twin desire to scowl in the rearview mirror and/or give an unwelcome “wave”. 😜 I’m proud that I’ve done neither and Rick’s wisdom helped me refrain. Get the last laugh. It’s a much better tonic.

Here’s #20:

Remember that even though the person tailgating you is enraged, you are giving the people he or she is rushing to meet five or six extra seconds to relax.

Let me know what gives YOU the giggles.

Vicki 😉

P.S. A couple of the giggles are insider jokes for those of us in the Chicago area!

  5. Life is too …. [fill in the blank]. We all need to find a way to laugh. I’m not sure which is my favorite. I can definitely relate to 48.” Your family may love you, but your dog is the only one truly happy to see you when you come home.” Ha, ha.

  6. Rick’s list a full of laughs. Another great list I just saw posted on FB earlier today, Red Skelton’s advice for a perfect marriage. The first item is that he and his wife go out to dinner twice a week to a nice restaurant, have a little beverage, good food and companionship. She goes on Tuesdays, he goes on Fridays! And on it goes. 😂

I don’t think I’ve gone through a day without finding something to laugh about in at least 20 years. I don’t ever want to change. The things that strike me the funniest happen organically rather than listening to a sand-up comic.

  14. #19 rings painfully true for a friend whose repair bill was $300 after her well-meaning son tried to fix her thermostat, and #41 rings true for every resident in my building who has been the victim of the wagging tongue of one lone resident. Truth is indeed very funny, except when it isn’t! Thanks for a bundle of morning giggles to start my day! 😁

    1. Oh geez! You and hubby Paul are “twinsies” about #19….that one speaks the truth! So sorry about your friend’s thermostat mi$fortune. Ouch!
Here’s to less of #41 and more love and kindness, overall. Xo, Jules! 🥰❤️🥰

  16. #1 I’ve heard that saying as: “the squeaky wheel gets the grease and is the first to be replaced.” I’ve taken that idea to heart, trying to not complain.

#9 is good, too. I can’t think of any example where it isn’t true. Sit still people!

    1. Oh….yah. I like your take on #1. Yes! And #9 is good…I love how your two faves kinda meld together, squeaky wheels, knee replacements – watching out for our parts, ourselves. LOL! Thanks, Ally! 🥰

  18. Oh, that is too funny! My favorite is “The Do-It-Yourself crowd always eventually creates more business for the Do-it-For-You occupations.” simply because my FIL has been on a DIY kick and… well, let’s face it, a radiologist probably isn’t the right man for electrical and pluming issues. 😜
