Morning Message

I’m not a poet but I love to dabble, especially when stream-of-consciousness poetry arrives. Almost in an auto-write format. I’ll explain…

It doesn’t happen often, but words and phrases…sometimes whole stanzas of poetry command my attention if my dad populated my subconscious overnight. I wish I could summon these bon-mot-moments on demand. Alas, I must wait and capture what arrives, when it arrives. Pen in hand or fingers clamoring for a keyboard, I stumble out of bed and race to write.

I’m still musing about the latest nocturnal gem, thinking I’ve gleaned meaning. Happy to receive.

Pull inward when the season shifts

When light diminishes

Homecoming is yours

Lean toward the streak of mid-day sun

And its fleeting presence

In the pause

Hear my voice

Distant but clear…near

Gifts came, wrapped in burdens

You help

You heal

Outward displays

But remember to turn inward

Just as nature does

Shedding summer brights

For earthy hues

Resetting

For growth

Accomplishments ahead

Nurtured by love

Pushing forward. “Doing the things”, as my dad would say. Like gulping and writing a feature for “Bold Journey” magazine, talking about myself and sharing the wonderful work Wynne Leon and I do – interviewing authors and learning about creative folks. Thank you to dear Maggie Watson for the recommendation to the Bold Journey team!

Sending all of my best wishes to you!

  26. I’m so impressed that concepts, words, stanzas can come to you in the night, and you rush to get them down on paper in the morning, and it’s sweet that they are connected to your dad. ❤️ I love that you interact with him in this way. “Shedding summer brights, for eartly hues, resetting for growth, accomplishments ahead.” Yes!!!! Nature and humans need to reset as a part of life. Thanks, Vicki for a meaningful morning message. 😊

  27. Oh, Vicki, you are definitely a poet, and I love how you had to “stumble out of bed and race to write.” This is so lovely and inspirational to read on a Monday morning when Mondays seem to be the least-liked days of the week. Poor Mondays. And I always enjoy and take away so much from your interviews that you and Wynne conduct. I look forward to ours this week. I will read your Bold Journey interview later, and I know I will find inspiration as well. I haven’t shared mine yet. So many things going on. Anyway, this comment is growing, so time to end. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful words with us. ❤️🤗

  28. Vicki, as someone who has never been able to remember dreams almost immediately after awakening, I tried at one time to capture whatever fleeting thoughts I might have of them for future analysis or “reference.” Alas, the memories never lasted quite long enough to capture, but I make it easy on myself to capture thoughts during waking hours by always carrying my phone. Maybe daylight gems can shine as bring as nocturnal ones, but you definitely have a gem of a message here!

    1. Such a lovely comment, Bruce! You make a great point – I use my phone often to capture this and that during the day. Even just now – when something popped to mind as I pulled into the garage! Thank you for reading and for your kindness! 💝🥰💝
