I’ve been doing the “proffee” thing for a couple of years. You’ve heard of this? The trick of jazzing up your morning joe with a little protein powder? It’s yummy…if you mix it well with your milk of choice and then add your coffee. Iced or hot – it’s great. I love a little vanilla protein powder with my almond milk and a little cinnamon.
But this morning? I lost my marbles just a bit and learned a lesson. I should refrain from being a pre-dawn mixologist. See…I was trying to multi-task and make my protein smoothie – for later – and in that concoction I use a full scoop of protein goodness. You know where I’m going, don’t you?
My smoothie got a sprinkle and my coffee got a scoop. And nope – I didn’t notice. I carried on and sat down, across from hubster Paul, at our kitchen island…still with only one-eye open but feeling pretty sassy for being efficient, beverage-wise. And then…I took a sip of my “coffee” and nearly choked. It was more like a chalky soup. A chalky, early morning, lumpy bumpy soup.
I knew instantly what I’d done and while I choked and laughed (okay, full disclosure – I snorted) poor Paul just gave me THAT look. The one that conveys disdain and patience in a glance. His gaze, as I guffawed, was a knowing look. Sure, he was curious about the hilarity but not being a fan of coffee, he thinks the whole ritualized routine of creating a perfect cup is ludicrous. So he ignored me for a few minutes. Always a good move, I say, when I’m losing my mind. Look away…but please come back.
Paul ambled toward the fridge to get his beverage of choice. Orange juice. Pour. Drink. Done. No funny business. And speaking of funny…when I finally calmed down enough to explain my whoops, my summary statement (necessary because I could tell he didn’t want the novella) was:
“I accidentally made soup instead of coffee.”
Looking at the consistency of the glocky-schlocky mess in my mug, Paul nodded and I got a glimmer of a grin. Considering the mistake I’d made, beverage-wise, I’ll take a grin for a win on a Wednesday.
Hope your day goes smoothly. And if it doesn’t, laugh at yourself if you can.
Vicki 🥰
