When You Crack Yourself Up: “Coffee” Style

I’ve been doing the “proffee” thing for a couple of years.  You’ve heard of this?  The trick of jazzing up your morning joe with a little protein powder?  It’s yummy…if you mix it well with your milk of choice and then add your coffee.  Iced or hot – it’s great.  I love a little vanilla protein powder with my almond milk and a little cinnamon.

But this morning?  I lost my marbles just a bit and learned a lesson. I should refrain from being a pre-dawn mixologist.  See…I was trying to multi-task and make my protein smoothie – for later – and in that concoction I use a full scoop of protein goodness.  You know where I’m going, don’t you?

My smoothie got a sprinkle and my coffee got a scoop.  And nope – I didn’t notice.  I carried on and sat down, across from hubster Paul, at our kitchen island…still with only one-eye open but feeling pretty sassy for being efficient, beverage-wise. And then…I took a sip of my “coffee” and nearly choked.  It was more like a chalky soup.  A chalky, early morning, lumpy bumpy soup.

I knew instantly what I’d done and while I choked and laughed (okay, full disclosure – I snorted) poor Paul just gave me THAT look.  The one that conveys disdain and patience in a glance.  His gaze, as I guffawed, was a knowing look.  Sure, he was curious about the hilarity but not being a fan of coffee, he thinks the whole ritualized routine of creating a perfect cup is ludicrous.  So he ignored me for a few minutes. Always a good move, I say, when I’m losing my mind. Look away…but please come back.

Paul ambled toward the fridge to get his beverage of choice. Orange juice. Pour. Drink. Done.  No funny business.  And speaking of funny…when I finally calmed down enough to explain my whoops, my summary statement (necessary because I could tell he didn’t want the novella) was:

“I accidentally made soup instead of coffee.”

Looking at the consistency of the glocky-schlocky mess in my mug, Paul nodded and I got a glimmer of a grin. Considering the mistake I’d made, beverage-wise, I’ll take a grin for a win on a Wednesday.

Hope your day goes smoothly. And if it doesn’t, laugh at yourself if you can.

Vicki 🥰

  2. Oops! haha 😁 I gotta say, “proffee” sounds pretty good. I’ll just make sure to do a sprinkle, not a scoop 😉

    1. You are too funny! I’m thinking about a cup of tea — to play it safe! And my face? I think it looked a lot like this emoji: 😝 LOL!

      1. I’m not a coffee drinker but I feel the same way about my morning tea. When I travel and I can’t get my cuppa as soon as I get up, my day just doesn’t get off to a good start.

        1. I feel that! And maybe I should lean into my love of tea for a while! 🤣🥰🤣

  7. I have become a recent fan of Boost. Rich, chocolate and nutritious. I have it after my coffee, but I could mix the too. When my kids were growing up, I’d give them Boost after swim practice, and now I’m enjoying it!

    1. Ahhh! I forgot about Boost! My mom-in-law Maxine loved it. Thanks for the reminder. Yum! 🥰

  8. Oh, Vicki, we’ve all been there. Even the OJ bunch have been there too. I’m convinced that some days we should get a medal just for getting up and making it to the breakfast table. As for Paul, I’m not trying to create any marital challenges or anything, but I think “tinkering” with his OJ might not be a bad thing. Might I suggest maybe a little extra sugar or salt, perhaps? It might help him be a little more empathetic to your coffee making challenge each morning. Ha, ha, ha . . . . just suggesting. Ha, ha. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. I’m laughing….out loud…SO loud…about your suggestion. Hilarious! If I’m gonna be devious, why not go for a little shot of hot sauce…to spice up that OJ? If I do it…I’m blaming you for planting the idea! 😂😂😂

      1. Oh, inquiring minds can’t wait. We want to see you try it the next chance you get!!!! A lil hot sauce. It will give the OJ a real kick. Oh, yes, definitely blame me. I’m fine with that. 🤪🤪🤪🤪😎😎😎

  10. Okay, I’ll only admit this to you Vicki, I add collagen to my coffee in powder form in the morning. My big mistakenly was that I put it in the sugar bowl for convenience. My poor son-in-law who was visiting will now have thick hair and smooth skin but no sugar in his coffee. He almost spit it all over the counter (it takes getting used to) but he held back! So as you were laying out your post I could so relate and enjoyed laughing with you. Big hugs, C

  13. A bunch of people have said “we’ve all been there,” but I can safely say I have not once ever made coffee soup!

There was that tea stew one time, though…

  15. You have no idea how comforted I am to know that I am not the only one who parades around as Ms. Stupeedo in the early morning hours—or any other hour of the day, for that matter. I knew I loved you for a reason. Speaking of soupy questions, I wonder—do you have any idea why I’m chewing my homemade cashew milk? Hypothetical, of course—answer not necessarily expected! 😜

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hypothetical—but of course! The best sort of “just in case” query. I’m sure the cashews were defective in some way. Unwilling to be “milked”….whahaha! Love you Jules! 🥰❤️🥰
