Podcast Friday: Just Jack

For the love of Jack. Just Jack.

No, no.  Not THAT Jack. Although I’m a fan of “Will and Grace” and of Sean Hayes. I’ve got another Jack on my mind…

When Wynne and I sat down to chat with our favorite playwright and author, Jack Canfora, we knew we were in for a good time.  What we couldn’t predict was the bounty of insight – bits of brilliance – as a result of an hour well-spent.

Jack?  He’d be the first person to pooh-pooh the superlatives.  He’s just Jack doing his thing…which is the second wave of wonder.  The first, of course, are the gems he offers in his natural parlance.  Just Jack…being Jack, exhibiting an abundance of ease and artistry.

Here are a few examples – but I sure hope you’ll listen so you can usher in anything I missed.

On Writing…Being Creative:

  • Jack shares that writing is like winning a war of attrition – with oneself.
  • Listen well to your words and those of writers you love; soak up the rhythm and the cadence.
  • Inspiration strikes; be ready to receive.

So much enlightenment that we’ll need to carry on with Part II next week. Join us!

Vicki 🥰

  2. I don’t think I’ll ever look at Eleanor Rigby or Psycho the same way again! Or cemeteries for that matter. Who knew the cemetery was the place to go to get character name ideas? Ha ha. Love the stories and your conversation with Jack. Great job.

    1. Same, same! I think my love of the song has taken on a whole new level of ‘whoa’ and ‘wow’. The idea of John and Paul hanging out in a cemetery…it all makes sense. Inspiration comes from the most unexpected places. (Not unlike your school bus thoughts this morning, my friend!) 😎🥰😎

      1. I’m not sure about a Psycho rewatch because I’m too much of a scaredy cat but I’ve already listened to Eleanor Rigby several times this morning Wynne.

  3. Wow! What Jack Canfora just said in the little YouTube snippet, “everything about creativity is like a repurposing.” And we must stay open to it. Love it! Will listen to your podcast tonight in bed. Can’t wait. Thanks for sharing.

  5. A marvelous guest for you guys! I was especially touched by Jack’s remarks on how his creative outlets affect his depression, a wishing to be heard — and in experiencing art, feeling the relief that you are not alone. Nourishing words 🙂

  6. It’s interesting to learn about where one’s creative inspiration comes from. Who knew there’d be a connection between McCartney and Hitchcock!?
