Looking Out…Looking In

Hey there!  The remodeling fun continues at our house and this morning I sat in the only chair remaining in our kitchen nook after wrestling it toward the door to the deck.  As you look at the view behind the comfy floral chair…you’ll see our kitchen has a fridge again – whoopee – but not much else!

The floors are in a state of flux and fury as we’re playing real life Tetris, schlepping furniture out of one active zone and into another.  But don’t cry for me…it’s progress and I’ll take it…even though this morning, with barely one eye open, I needed to commandeer a chair and a table, so I’d have a spot to enjoy an iced coffee, while peeking toward the deck.

The “view” inside leaves a lot to the imagination – still – but everything’s looking rosy outside.  And yes…as soon as I got some caffeine in me, I was out on the deck enjoying the birdsongs and the early morning light…. restored just enough to return to the endless game of musical chairs with the hubster. 😉

Here’s to the merits of pausing…and the benefits of looking out...rather than in. At least for today.

Vicki 😎

  1. Playing real life Tetris — that’s funny! And I love the wisdom of remembering to look out – especially when it’s a little messy within! 🙂 ❤ ❤

  3. For those who aren’t morning people, I can advise with some authority that the birdsong is lovely in the middle of the day as well! 😏

      1. Put out another chair—I’m on my way! By the way, are you certain that that is a photograph? It’s all misty and feathery like a watercolor—just absolutely gorgeous!

        1. Excellent! Extra chair ready…and the misty look might be the dirty glass on the door! Dust is EVERYWHERE!

  7. Thats some fridge … its massive 😳. Definitely a step in the right direction having your fridge back. I love the view outside too … its so green … as opposed to the city streets I have here … and a smaller fridge 😂
I’m glad that things are starting to come together

    1. The fridge IS enormous. Which…given what foodies we are, it will be full before we know it. And yes. You’d never know there’s a city nearby. Those trees are great camouflage. 😉🥰😉

  8. Enjoy filling it up. I hate to think what I’d be like with one that size. It’s about double the size of mine and it’s quite tall but still manage to fill it up

  9. What a beautiful scene to look out upon with coffee in the morning. It would be hard to come inside at all 🙂

    1. You are so right about that, Deb – hard to get back inside on such a pretty day. It’s been so cool here but after a few days in the high 70’s, everything’s ‘leafed out’ and looking green…and for now, the humidity’s very low. Delightful. What you’re not seeing in the pic are all the weeds that need attention just under the deck railing…they’re growing like mad, too! xo! 🥰

  11. Remodeling can be so stressful in the moment, but when it’s all done, it is so worth it! Charles Swindol (one of my favorite authors 30 years ago) wrote about a time when they were remodeling..it said three things I’ve never forgotten (and try to tell my customers before we start a remodel project) It will cost more than you think, be messier than you expect and take longer than anticipated. If you keep those things in mind going into it, you won’t be surprised. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Doug! (Douglas!) We are so lucky to have wonderful people working with us…they are painstaking and thoughtful and do high quality work. I think the advice from Swindol should be standard issue for everyone starting a big project! I bet your clients/customers adore you for being honest. And truth be told, must of what’s adding time to the completion is of our own making — deciding to refinish the floors at the same time. Thanks much for stopping by! Hope your Monday was terrific! 🥰

      1. You’re welcome. Glad you have a good crew to work with. I could tell you stories. 🙂 Got to the point where I no longer make recommendations because it’s hard to find people with integrity, and who will communicate.

        1. Oh, I bet you’ve got some stories that are whoppers! I hear you…endorsing or recommending when you’re not certain that they’re “good people” could reflect poorly on you. Yep. And we are lucky. Our folks are smart and talented…starting to feel more like family at this point! 🥰
